ABC has decided the fate of The Rookie, announcing that the show has been officially renewed for Season 7. There had been uncertainty about the future of the series, which has been on the bubble months after its spinoff, The Rookie: Feds, was axed after one season.
Per TVLine, The Rookie earned its season renewal with four episodes left to go for its current sixth season. The show was one of a handful of titles that were still on the bubble at ABC, and this now leaves the futures of both The Conners and Not Dead Yet unknown. The Good Doctor and Station 19 will both be ending with their current seasons, while the next TV season will introduce Kaitlin Olson's High Potential and Joshua Jackson's Dr. Odyssey; the latter was created by Ryan Murphy.
“It’s big," cast member Eric Winter teased of the upcoming Season 6 finale. "There are a lot of reveals, and as far as Tim and Lucy, they have some fun stuff together — including another great action sequence that they get involved in. For Tim and Lucy, it leaves you with a nice sort of, I wouldn’t say closure or a guarantee of anything, but it leaves it in a place where there’s stuff to talk about.”
The Rookie was created by Alexi Hawley and the series debuted on ABC in 2018. The show stars Nathan Fillion as a middle-aged rookie in the LAPD. Alyssa Diaz also stars with other cast members including Richard T. Jones, Melissa O'Neil, Eric Winter, Mekia Cox, Shawn Ashmore, Jenna Dewan, and Tru Valentino.

The official description for Season 6 of The Rookie reads, "John Nolan, once the oldest rookie in the LAPD, has used his life experience, determination and sense of humor to keep up with rookies 20 years his junior. Nolan feels like it can’t get much better, now that his life with Bailey (Dewan) is moving forward, and he has chosen his career path. However, he and his team must grapple with the aftermath of their recent assaults before they can move forward.”
The Rookie: Feds Didn't Share the Same Success
The show's spinoff, The Rookie: Feds, was developed by Hawley and Terence Paul Winter. It debuted in 2022, but it did not share the success of its parent series. ABC axed the show in November 2023 after just one season. The show starred Niecy Nash-Betts who joins the FBI as a special agent while pushing 50; Frankie Faison, James Lesure, and Britt Robertson also starred.
The Rookie can be streamed on Hulu.
