Tame Impala’s Kevin Parker says he “was in Dua Lipa’s dream” ahead of surprise Glastonbury 2024 duet

Tame Impala’s Kevin Parker has shared about appearing at Dua Lipa’s Glastonbury 2024 set.

Parker had joined Lipa to cover his band’s 2015 hit ‘The Less I Know The Better’, with the ‘Radical Optimism’ singer lending vocals to its chorus. Notably, the Tame Impala frontman had handled production duties on the bulk of the pop star’s latest album.

In an interview with The Guardian, published today (July 22), Parker spoke more about that moment, saying that it was “way more wild than I thought it was gonna be”.

“The nicest thing about it was that it was Dua headlining Glastonbury, which is something she has wanted to do since she was a kid,” he added. “I felt like I had a seat in someone’s dream that they were living – I was just happy to be a part of it.”

He also revealed that, after the performance, the duo had little time to spend together. “We had a big hug, just vibing out for an instant there, and then I had to go to a DJ set and she had to go to her afterparty,” he recalled. “We didn’t get to properly rage, but that is just the way Glastonbury goes.”

Parker also recalled hearing the news from Lipa herself while they were working in the studio. And soon after, he got the offer to join her onstage.

“I remember just being like, ‘Really? Are you sure you want to play my little song during your set of absolute bangers?” he said. “She was pretty insistent – so after I double-checked with her that she wanted to do it, of course I was in.”

The musician also revealed that he’s still working on a new Tame Impala album. “It’s not finished yet, but I think it’ll be there soon,” he said.” I’m loving how excited I am by it – for me, with Tame Impala, if I’m not feeling inspired, there’s no fucking point in doing it.”

Elsewhere in the interview, Parker also talked about his recently announced “psychedelic” fashion collection with A.P.C. brand. “It definitely wasn’t on my bingo card for my career,” he said. “For the first few years of my career, I just slapped on whatever and, to be honest, I still slap on whatever. But there’s a bit more thought behind it.”

Earlier this month, Lipa announced a second engagement at Wembley Stadium after her first date there sold out in minutes. The shows will take place on June 20 and 21, 2025.

In NME‘s four-star review of Lipa’s headlining set at Glastonbury 2024, Liberty Dunworth noted how it was “packed to the brim with perfectly choreographed routines and impossibly-fast outfit changes.”
