If you were thinking, "25 seasons of Law and Order: SVU simply isn't enough true crime," then you are in luck. Dick Wolf Entertainment is bringing you even more Law and Order with the franchise creator's latest endeavor: a true crime podcast.
According to NBC, the new podcast, titled Law & Order: Criminal Justice System, will feature 10 episodes in its first season and will focus closely on "the fall of the mafia in New York City, kicking off with the assassination of powerful Bonanno crime family boss Carmine Galante in 1979." Since, like the show, it will show the law enforcement and legal side of the cases, it's appropriate that it will be hosted by Anna-Sigga Nicolazzi, a former prosecutor for the Brooklyn District Attorney's office, who also co-hosts another true crime podcast, Anatomy of a Murder, and hosted the TV Series True Conviction.
Just as Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay) works alongside her team to secure evidence and catch a perpetrator on screen, Anna says that she enjoys being able to put together the facts in the quest for justice. "I love the challenge of putting the pieces together of a puzzle — having to then pack that all up, and explain it to a group of 12 citizens that come from all different walks of life because the challenge is to make sure they agree," Anna, who has tried more than 50 felony cases, told NBC Insider.
And like most true crime junkies, the avid SVU fans couldn't contain their excitement upon hearing the news.
“I’ve never hit follow so fast on a podcast before 😂,” one fan wrote. “OMG! You have my full attention ❤️,” another added. “You had me at the theme music! 🎶🎧,” someone else wrote. A different person said, “This is amazing!”
The podcast joins the ever-growing Law and Order franchise, which currently includes the Special Victims Unit series along with the original Law & Order, Criminal Intent, Trial by Jury, LA, True Crime and Organized Crime.
And if you're worried that this new endeavor will affect the show, don't panic. Season 26 of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit is still on track to premiere Thursday, October 3 at 8 p.m. EST.
