SEAL Team’s David Boreanaz Explains Jason’s Risky Move [2024]

Character-driven plots, action-packed episodes, and the impact both have on Bravo come to mind when we think about SEAL Team. The video demonstrates this vividly, highlighting the conclusion of Season 6, where other SEALs came forward after Jason, played by David Boreanaz, made his traumatic brain injury (TBI) public. As Season 7 commences, Bravo Team is not operational, leading its members into activities they least want to engage in, which results in practical jokes.

Ray, portrayed by Neil Brown Jr., gets a glimpse of his potential retirement life, while Jason spends quality time with his children. The fronts of PTSD or TBI remain unattended, allowing Ray the freedom to assist individuals the military cannot help after he retires. Jason eventually confronts Captain Walch, the newly appointed DEVGRU commanding officer played by Dylan Walsh, about these issues. Walch mentions that Blackburn, performed by Jud Lurman, had proposed a mental health initiative for warfighters, but Jason’s public outburst hasn't earned him any new allies.

Jason is determined not to let his teammates suffer from his previous actions, which have taken away the one activity they truly love. He offers his Trident in exchange for Bravo being assigned back to the field. Upon Bravo’s debriefing, Jason asks Blackburn whether Walch has accepted his offer. By the second episode's end, it's unclear if the deal is set because Blackburn does not provide an answer. David Boreanaz explains to TV Insider that Jason's proposal is irreversible. It’s a negotiation tactic, a commercial decision, and a strategic move to do good deeds, challenging the new command to follow through on their promises.

Boreanaz compares it to the Summer Olympics, referencing a humorous Snoop Dogg play-by-play of a badminton game to illustrate the back-and-forth dynamic between Jason and Captain Walch. This interaction brings out all of Jason’s character, proving the essence of the new season.

Drew, a character known for cheating in a sharpshooter contest and leveraging his father's political connections, joins Bravo after a transfer to Sweden for a month of collaboration with local police. Despite orders to remain in the Swedish facility, the team finds itself involved in a major incident at a shopping center following a bombing. The SEALs enter the scene to halt the gunman and aid the injured, with Jason fighting for his life. Drew eventually saves Jason, leading to an intense 20-minute sequence.

On their return, Jason learns that command is displeased with their unauthorized engagement, suggesting that short-duty assignments will resume. Jason confides in Ray that Drew had to step in to save him. Ray assures Jason that he will overcome this experience as he has in the past, but Jason remains unconvinced, especially after a vivid nightmare. Despite telling Mandy that everything is fine, he later admits he's been hiding behind walls.

Mandy observes that his admission signifies growth. Jason has balanced his efforts, including TBI treatments and family time, yet he fears that diving back into high-stakes operations could unravel his progress. Mandy reassures him, but the question remains, will all Jason’s efforts withstand the test of time?
