Jennifer Aniston says ‘There are no more movie stars’ and hates social media: ‘It’s torture’

Jennifer Aniston succinctly lamented Hollywood’s fading glamor in her recent Allure magazine cover story. The author of the article read aloud a passage to Aniston in which a friend wrote the following about the “Friends” superstar: “No one can be as famous as her. That phenomenon of mass reputation burning has been so prominent for a long time, it’s just that it’s unattainable today. She’s like a silent movie star among a generation of TikTok–s addicts.”

Jennifer Aniston Says 'There Are No More Movie Stars' and Thinks Social Media is 'Torture'

“Whoa. Oh, that gives me chills,” Aniston replied. “I’m a little choked up. I feel like it’s dying. No more movie stars. No more glamor. Even the Oscar parties used to be fun, too.”

Aniston frankly said that she hates social media. The actor hardly used various social media platforms, but she decided to join Instagram in October 2019. Her appearance on Instagram caused such a frenzy of attention that the app crashed for a short period of time. Aniston currently boasts 40.7 million followers on Instagram. She told Allure that she initially only joined the platform to market LolaVie, her hair care company that specializes in eco-friendly products.
“I hate social media,” Aniston said. “I’m not good at it… It’s torture for me. The reason I went on Instagram was to launch this product line. Then the pandemic hit and we didn’t launch. So I just stuck with using Instagram. It doesn’t come naturally.”

Aniston theorizes that the lack of social media is perhaps one reason why “Friends” continues to be a huge hit on streaming.
“There are people who say watching ‘Friends’ saved them during their cancer diagnosis, or a lot of people who are incredibly grateful for a little show,” Aniston said. “We really love each other and take care of each other. I don’t know why it still resonates; no iPhone. It’s just people talking to each other. No one talks to each other anymore.”

Next up for Aniston is the third season of the Apple TV+ series “The Morning Show” as well as reuniting with Adam Sandler for their Netflix sequel “Murder Mystery 2.”
