Jared Padalecki’s Fire Country Return Clarified By Showrunner

Fire Country showrunner Tia Napolitano clarifies Jared Padalecki's future with the show, revealing whether Camden will return in season 3. The veteran Gilmore Girls and Supernatural star joined Fire Country season 3 as Camden Casey. Although he recognizes the raw talent of Bode (Max Theriot), this also means that the two clash over the course of a three-episode arc. The guest run is reportedly meant to serve as an introduction for a spinoff led by Padalecki.

In an interview with TV Insider, Napolitano clarified that Padalecki will not be back for the rest of season 3. However, in the quote below, the showrunner praises the veteran TV star and how Camden changed the show's dynamic. She also mentions that the door is open for him to make an appearance in the future:

We won’t see him this season, but the door’s definitely not closed. He was just a delight of a human, just a wonderful person and a wonderful actor. And that character was so fun. I thought he really brought something special to the show.

Padalecki's Character Has Unfinished Business

Padalecki's point of tension with Bode becomes clear in Fire Country season 3, episode 7, when he accidentally calls Bode by the name of his dead brother. Camden's brother Patrick, only a few years younger, died in a fire a decade ago. Despite the fact that Camden tries to put on a cool and tough exterior, it's clear he's not quite processed what happened. In the episode's closing moments, Camden tells Sharon (Diane Farr) that he's returning home to SoCal for unfinished business.

That parting line does set the stage for the Padalecki-led spinoff, which was first floated when it was reported earlier this year that CBS Studios has extended its first-look deal with Padalecki. The deal means that Padalecki is involved with developing and producing new series for CBS Studios, which may include a Camden spinoff. But so far, that project has yet to be announced.

He's A Valuable Addition

Regardless of what happens with Camden's spinoff, it would be important to have Padalecki back as a member of the Fire Country cast. The actor has built up a familiarity with audiences thanks to a variety of roles, and he quickly built up chemistry with the likes of Thieriot and Farr that added to the energy and urgency of the CBS drama.
