I Tried Link’s Unusual Breakfast Sandwich From Grey’s Anatomy—Here’s What I Thought

Some foods are a match made in heaven, while others are just… questionable. Grey’s Anatomy fans got a taste of the latter in a recent episode when Link, played by Chris Carmack, introduced his personal take on a breakfast sandwich. Link, who is currently in a romantic relationship with Jo (Camilla Luddington), has some unique food preferences. In an effort to make him happy, Jo whipped up a rather unexpected—and highly questionable—morning meal: bacon, eggs, cheese and a pancake sandwiched between two donuts or as Link calls it, "“a sandwich of my favorite breakfast foods.”

Link’s towering breakfast sandwich has caught attention on social media, with Carmack’s IRL wife recreating the trend on TikTok. The caption jokes not to “get your breakfast ideas from medical dramas,” but out of pure curiosity, I conjured up the ingredients to see for myself.

What Is Link’s Breakfast Sandwich?

As mentioned, the sandwich is a compilation of the character Link’s favorite breakfast foods. Jo made the meal for him as a nice gesture. That being said, viewers are not totally convinced that this flavor combo is the breakfast of champions. It is fairly simple to try out for yourself though.

Ingredients for Link’s Breakfast Sandwich

To make Link’s breakfast sandwich, you will need: one pancake, two fried eggs (I cooked one with a yolk and one without), bacon, cheese, and two glazed donuts. Of course, if you don’t enjoy bacon you can substitute with other proteins. I crisped up a few pieces of prosciutto instead.

How I Made Link’s Breakfast Sandwich

I advise making all of the ingredients before constructing the sandwich. Whip up a few pancakes according to the packaging instructions (you only need one, but it’s difficult to make just one with batter). In a separate pan, fry your eggs as you usually would and season with salt and pepper. When the eggs are just about ready, top them with cheese and allow it to melt. I threw on shredded cheddar cheese, but if you have regular slices of American cheese that would work here too. Then, I let the prosciutto fry for a few minutes until golden brown and crispy.

Stack your sandwich starting with one donut, then layer on the fried eggs followed by cheese, pancake and prosciutto. Top it with that second glazed donut. Smush it down like Jo did, and voila! You have a doctor-prescribed breakfast meal (well, kind of).

What I Thought About Link’s Breakfast Sandwich

I can’t say I was jumping for joy at the taste of this sandwich, but that was expected. The glazed donuts and prosciutto overpowered the other ingredients, so the fried eggs and pancake weren’t even really worth adding. I felt that all of these delicious breakfast go-to's drowned each other out in this stacked formation so I think it’s better just to chow down on them separately. If you try this breakfast sandwich out for yourself, pouring a little bit of maple syrup on the pancake wouldn’t hurt.

Overall though, I suggest keeping Link’s breakfast and the lure of a donut sandwich on your television screens. I’m still stuck on Alex Karev and Jo’s relationship, so who knows? I may be a bit biased.
