‘Fire Country’ Spinoff ‘Sheriff Country’ Casts ‘CSI: Vegas’ Star Matt Lauria

Matt Lauria has joined the cast of “Sheriff Country,” CBS‘ upcoming spinoff of “Fire Country.”

He will star opposite Morena Baccarin, who was previously announced to be leading the series when CBS greenlit it last May. Per the official logline, “Sheriff Country” will follow “straight-shooting sheriff Mickey Fox (Baccarin), the stepsister of Cal Fire’s division chief Sharon Leone (Diane Farr of ‘Fire Country’), who investigates criminal activity as she patrols the streets of small-town Edgewater while contending with her ex-con father (W. Earl Brown) and a mysterious incident involving her wayward daughter.” Christopher Gorham and Michele Weaver also star.

Lauria will play Boone, Mickey’s longtime partner who is described as a “smart, tough and capable deputy” with a different style of law enforcement, being from Oakland.

Lauria’s most recent TV roles were on CBS’ “CSI: Vegas” and Amazon Prime Video’s “Outer Range,” which both concluded in 2024. His other prominent credits include appearing in “Friday Night Lights” from 2009 to 2011, “Parenthood” from 2012 to 2015 and “Dickinson” in 2019, with film roles including 2019’s “Miss Bala” and “Shaft” and 2023’s “80 for Brady.”

“Sheriff Country” began as a backdoor pilot, with Mickey being introduced in the “Fire Country” Season 2 episode “Alert the Sheriff.” She reprised that role in an episode of the show’s currently airing third season. The first episode of the spinoff will be written by Tony Phelan and Joan Rater, with story by Phelan, Rater and Max Thieriot. Executive producers are Thieriot, Phelan, Rater, and Jerry Bruckheimer and KristieAnne Reed for Jerry Bruckheimer TV. CBS Studios produces.
