Fire Country Season 2 Just Massively Changed Bode & Gabriela’s Story

Warning! SPOILERS about Fire Country season 2, episode 5 ahead.

The firenado of Fire Country season 2, episode 5 and its aftermath upended the community in Edgewater, and in doing so, it prompted huge changes to Bode and Gabriela’s relationship. The ambulance accident at the end of Fire Country season 2, episode 4 was an already impossible situation because it left Diego, Cara and Bode on the side of the road, but the firenado stopping them from leaving the aid car essentially stranded them, dooming Cara in a heart-wrenching development. The heightened state it put them in led to various honest confessions, including one completely changing Bode and Gabriela’s story.

Bode and Gabriela’s lives became intertwined straight after he helped her with her car in Fire Country season 1, and getting to know Bode made Gabriela sure of her feelings for him. Gabriela quickly became willing to wait for Bode, even after he was forced to take the fall and return to prison because of Sleeper. Only Bode’s refusal to engage with Gabriela’s letters convinced her she was wasting her time, but Bode’s return to Three Rock could have complicated things. However, their heart-to-heart in Fire Country season 2, episode 5’s end finally cleared up what’s in store for them.

Fire Country Season 2, Episode 5's Tragedies Let Bode & Gabriela Sort Their Priorities

Gabriela Is Focused On Diego Just As Bode Is On Gen – Their Love Isn't Romantic Anymore

Max Thieriot as Bode Leone and Stephanie Arcila as Gabriela Perez in Fire Country season 2, episode 5

While Fire Country season 2, episode 4’s events happened so fast that Bode and Gabriela’s reactions could be easily mistaken as driven by lingering feelings, the harrowing situation Bode, Diego and Cara found themselves in in Fire Country season 2, episode 5 gave him and Gabriela clarity. Trying to keep Cara alive gave Bode the chance to explain to Diego that his impromptu “I love you” to Gabriela didn’t mirror any intention to get back together with her, just like Diego shared that he wasn’t jealous, but trying to look out for Gabriela, considering how much Bode made her suffer.

Although Bode being upfront with Diego already showed his priorities only included Genevieve, it was his honest exchange with Gabriela at Fire Country season 2, episode 5’s end that clearly established how they had both moved on from their romantic entanglement. Admitting they would have always loved each other like family let Bode and Gabriela acknowledge how important they were to each other, even with them leaving their romantic connection definitely in the past. This way, they left no room for ambiguity, setting up Bode’s focus on building a relationship with Gen and Gabriela’s on building a future with Diego.

Fire Country Season 2's Story Focus Doesn't Mean Bode & Gabriela Can't Reconnect Later

Their Priorities Are Set For Fire Country Season 2, But Not Forever

Stephanie Arcila as Gabriela Perez in Fire Country season 2, episode 4

Fire Country season 2’s choice to distinctly close the door on Bode and Gabriela’s love for now marks an intriguing shift considering how Fire Country season 1 had established them as a pairing impossible to separate. Intent on focusing their energies on fatherhood for Bode and a marriage to someone whose objectives matched hers for Gabriela, it’s unlikely the two will reconnect romantically in Fire Country season 2.

However, while Bode already dealt with his feelings, Gabriela has yet to admit the uneasiness she felt when Bode told her about a new girl without explaining it was his possible daughter. This Gabriela detail being left unaddressed gives hope for Bode and Gabriela potentially reconnecting romantically in the future, even if it were to happen in Fire Country season 3 or future seasons. After all, while Gabriela might be completely sure of her relationship with Diego now, especially after resolving their skirmish about what firehouse to choose, she could easily have doubts were her feelings for Bode to resurface.

Gabriela’s life will likely be busy for the remainder of Fire Country season 2. Having chosen station 42, Gabriela will have the responsibility of building a medic program from scratch, making her even busier than how she already was as a firefighter there. Her and Diego’s wedding will also take center stage in Fire Country season 2, with its organization involving Gabriela’s estranged mother giving them a chance to rebuild their relationship, but also potentially cause trouble considering what Gabriela thought of her until recently.

Bode is also likely to go through life-changing events. Cara’s heartbreaking death in Fire Country season 2, episode 5 guarantees Bode’s attention will be on supporting Jake and Genevieve for the rest of Fire Country season 2. With the ambulance incident changing Cara’s mind about letting him bond with Genevieve and even seemingly confirming him to be the father, there is no reason for Bode to stay away from Jake and Gen. Considering the developments in Bode and Gabriela’s lives, they will have plenty to face without their romance standing in the way in Fire Country season 2.
