New images from FBI: Most Wanted season 5 show a familiar star joining the cast, marking the newest change for the overall FBI franchise. Co-created by Law & Order's Dick Wolf and Craig Turk, the procedural drama has been a solid performer for CBS. The original FBI series, which first premiered in 2018, has led to spinoffs, FBI: International and FBI: Most Wanted. When the latter show debuts season 5 in the new year, it will welcome Special Agent Nina Chase (Shantel VanSanten).
TVLine releases new images of FBI: Most Wanted season 5, highlighting VanSanten's addition to the cast. The actor, who has also had roles in One Tree Hill, The Boys, and For All Mankind, joined the original FBI in season 4 as Special Agent Chase and continued to recur throughout season 5.
A reason for VanSanten's move between shows was not specified, though it follows the exit of FBI: Most Wanted actor Alexa Davalos, who portrayed Special Agent Kristin Gaines.
What To Know About Special Agent Nina Chase (& What The New Photos Reveal)
Nina Chase is described as a skilled FBI agent who is sharp, strong-willed, and no stranger to being undercover. Despite the move, Chase remains in a relationship with FBI's Stuart Scola (John Boyd) as they raise their infant son, Douglas. During her first appearances, Chase filled in for Special Agent Maggie Bell (Missy Peregrym) after Bell was exposed to sarin gas. She's since continued in her capacity as an undercover angel, and in the FBI season 5 finale, she gave birth to Douglas.
VanSanten will be stepping in as FBI: Most Wanted's Davalos departs. The actor, who has played Special Agent Kristin Gaines since season 3, was informed by a producer that she would not return after filming her last scenes in FBI: Most Wanted season 4. According to the reporting at the time, Davalos' exit had been described by multiple sources as "amicable." Within the show, there was no hint that Gaines would be leaving.
Along with the images of VanSanten's arrival, there's also a shot of FBI: Most Wanted's leader Remy (played by Dylan McDermott) speaking with his long-lost nephew Corey (Manifest actor JD Martin). It sets up an eventful return for the police drama, in addition to the changed dynamic of welcoming a new face to the team.
