FBI: International Season 2’s Explosive Finale Threatens Character Lives

The three FBI series are one of CBS' most successful franchises, and each show offers fans something different. FBI just finished its fifth season — its excellent cast solving cases with an air of New York's atmosphere and importance. Meanwhile, FBI: Most Wanted just wrapped up its fourth outing with its cast hunting down the worst of the worst fugitives. FBI: International is the newest member of the franchise with only two seasons, but it has something that its counterparts don't. The series has an aesthetic appeal and a certain "je ne sais quoi" that only its European setting can provide.

The Fly Team operates out of Budapest, Hungary, which happens to be Europe's hub for arms trafficking. That was the premise for "Fencing the Mona Lisa," as Agent Forester's squad was tasked with hunting down a nuclear-capable missile that had been stolen. Unfortunately, the episode ended with an awful cliffhanger that threatened the lives of almost every member of the team. Here's what happened and how it will affect Season 3.

FBI: International's Season 2 Finale Left Everyone's Lives in Jeopardy

FBI: International Season 2's Explosive Finale Threatens Character Lives

"Fencing the Mona Lisa" opened with a group of criminals stealing a nuclear missile, and given the weapon's capabilities, it wasn't long before Forester's team was urgently put on the case. Using their sources and some Geiger counters, they were able to hunt down the woman who was brokering the missile's sale. They convinced her to talk, which led them to the missile and its handlers. That's when they broke out the tactical gear, took out the criminals and recovered the missile.

Like FBI and FBI: Most Wanted, everything looked like it was going to end on a high note, but all of a sudden something was wrong. Forester realized that someone was going to come after the broker, and that's when a bomb went off on the floor below their war room — leaving everyone's lives in jeopardy. It was a devastating cliffhanger that will have fans worried for months.

Which Characters Will Survive for Season 3 of FBI: International?

FBI: International Season 2's Explosive Finale Threatens Character Lives

There isn't a lot to go on, but it's worth predicting who might have survived the massive blast. Rains was outside providing surveillance when the bomb went off. So, it's unlikely that he would have been killed. He won't be unaffected, but fans shouldn't be worried about him dying. Forester seems like the second-least likely to die. Though an FBI series has killed off a lead before, it feels unlikely in this situation. Between nearly being reassigned and surviving a hitman, he's been through too much to be killed off now.

Smitty just joined the team this season, so unless the Europol liaison position is going to be a revolving door, it's unlikely that she'll die. But that doesn't mean that everyone on the team is safe. With Damian just joining the Fly Team, it feels like someone has to take a fall. Otherwise, the cliffhanger bomb will have no real consequences. The question is which of the three other team members it could be. It could be Kellet. Though, with her and Forester no longer dating (and her other romance finished), her character has less of a tie to the series. However, Kellet isn't the most likely casualty.

Based on Cameron and Damian's bourgeoning romance, it's most likely that one of them will be hurt or killed. Their connection would add a heightened sense of personal gravitas to the bombing if one of them were hurt. Of course, there could be some editing magic, and everyone could have made it out the back door. Hopefully, that will happen, but if anyone ends up being in jeopardy, it's probably Cameron or Damian.

FBI: International airs Tuesdays at 9:00 p.m. on CBS and streams on Paramount+.
