When Law and Order fans first heard Detective Elliot Stabler (Christopher Meloni) was coming out of retirement to fight crime on the streets of New York City again, many said it was a long time coming. After all, it had been nearly a decade since his abrupt exit from Law and Order: SVU.

Law and Order: Organized Crime season 2 will start on Thursday, September 23 at 10 p.m. ET on NBC. Right before that, Law and Order: SVU season 23 will kick off at 8 p.m. on NBC.

In early August, Deadline reported that This Is Us star Ron Cephas Jones and The Big Ugly actor Vinnie Jones are set for recurring roles opposite of Christopher in season 2. Per the report, Ron will play Congressman Leon Kilbride, "a born politician who fosters connections and always plays his cards right." Meanwhile, Vinnie will portray Albi Briscu, "an Eastern European gangster who is the last remaining member of the organization from the old country."
What will season 2 of Law and Order: Organized Crime be about?
While there are no confirmed details about the plot for season 2 of Law and Order: Organized Crime, we do know that the 24 new episodes will be broken up into three eight-episode arcs, according to creator Dick Wolf.
Speaking with TVLine, Dick shared that season 2 will feature three different antagonists.
“The first third of the season is The Godfather. The second third is American Gangster. And the last third is Scarface,” he said to the outlet. “And these villains are going to be really bad guys that give [Detective Elliot Stabler] a constant source of energy, outrage, belief in justice and a different way of pursuing criminals than we’ve had before.”
